Hydrogels are generally synthetic and produced through chemical polymerization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A material historically used in the biomedical field<\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before being adopted by the cosmetics industry, biocellulose was notably used in biomedical applications.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Claire<\/strong>: \u201cHistorically, biocellulose was used in the biomedical field to cover wounds in severe burn patients, thanks to its strong ability to remain moist and gradually release lotion onto the skin, thereby supporting the healing process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is it referred to as a \u201cnatural sponge\u201d?<\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This expression comes from the very structure of biocellulose and its ability to absorb and then gradually release a lotion.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Claire<\/strong>: \u201cBiocellulose is often compared to a natural sponge because of its three-dimensional network.
